RMS Overdue Library Book Policy
Overdue Library Book Policies
Here at RMS, library books are only due once per month, always on the first Tuesday of each month when school is in session. Students are responsible for returning or renewing their books on time. They do receive several reminders via Schoology and the Morning Show leading up to monthly due dates, and students have many opportunities to renew and/or return books during the school day.
As middle schoolers, our communication about library books is primarily handled through the student. Weekly emails are sent to students if they have overdue library books, so they should check their school emails regularly. When students have lost, damaged, or overdue library books, we expect them to communicate this information home to parents. Students may request we email home or they can call parents to inform them of any issues that need to be taken care of related to library books. All lost or damaged library books must be paid for.
Students in grades 6-8 with extremely overdue library books (one month or more overdue) may be assigned lunch detention with the Media Center until the book is returned, renewed, or paid for if lost or damaged. Lost materials that are found within 30 days of payment will receive a full refund.
5th grade students: Books that are extremely overdue (one month or more overdue) will be considered lost and must be paid for. Students may not check out any new library books until the overdue book is returned, renewed, or paid for if lost or damaged. Lost materials that are found within 30 days of payment will receive a full refund.
All lost book fees may be paid with cash in the RMS Media Center or via Campus Fees in Parent Portal. If you would like to pay via Parent Portal, please email Annie Allen or have your student let her know as these fees must be manually entered for each lost book.
