SEPTEMBER 2024

Thank you for a great first two weeks of school!  We welcomed 1085 students to our building and we are looking forward to a great 2024-2025 school year!

Royal Way Tickets

Last week your student was introduced to new aspects of our Royal Way ticket system. We are being intentional about the use of our tickets as a way to incentivize expected behavior.

New to RMS this year:

  • Students may use a ticket for early dismissal to get in the lunch line.
  • Students can earn their way outside on Fridays with a ticket (Mondays-Thursdays do not require a ticket).
  • Students can rent lunch recess equipment, when we have the opportunity to go outside, with a ticket (only for that day).
  • Students can earn privileges within classrooms and study hall that are specific to those spaces.

All tickets used for these opportunities and privileges are entered into the main drawing in the office for other fun prizes.

7th Grade Field Trip: September 18-20

Students will be visiting Camp Venture, Baker Park Reserve and Feed My Starving Children throughout these three days.  Please make sure your student is dressed appropriately for the weather/activity and that they bring a lunch from home each day (unless they requested one from school).

Rogers Middle School Battle Royal: Apex Leadership Co. is Coming Soon to RMS!

Thank you for your support of Rogers Middle School and the investment you make in your children's lives!  We are excited to introduce you to this year's major fundraising initiative: The RMS Battle Royal which will start on September 30th and end on October 11th with the Color Battle event.

Students will be challenged to get donations over 2 weeks from family and friends to help our school. Funds raised will be used for student engagement and staff support. We'll end the 2-week fundraiser with a celebratory color battle event for students who participate in the fundraiser (think of field games, lots of color powder, participant t-shirts, loud music, high energy and fun!).

All students can participate in the activities throughout the two weeks.  To be a part of the Color Battle event, students must have raised a minimum of $30 for the school. You can help make our color battle fundraiser successful by connecting your student to potential donors (family/friends) to acquire donations.  Every student will receive a unique access code that will grant access to their own donation page.  The more the word gets out, the more donations we will likely be able to gather for our school. Thank you again for your continued support!

If you would like to volunteer at the Color Battle event, please sign up here (it is a lot of fun!): 2024 Battle Royal Volunteers - October 11

Note from the Health Office

Please ensure your child has a spare change of clothes available in their locker, in case of illness, injury, or menstrual cycles. We have very limited items available for use. If you have any clothing you wish to donate, please connect with Katie (katelyn.bieniek@isd728.org).

We also don't have snacks available for students who miss a meal. Free breakfast and lunch are available to students.

Students are not allowed to carry medications on themselves on campus. Please reach out to the Health Office with any questions of how to provide medication to your student during the day.

Pass Page Buyback Volunteers Needed: October 23 & November 1

If a student uses 3 or less of their 18 quarterly passes, they will have the opportunity to turn the remaining ones in for a "pass page buyback" event that will be held on Friday, November 1. Students will spin a wheel to see what prize they've won. If you are interested in donating any items or volunteering for this event, please sign up below.  Thank you!

Royal Way Ticket Drawings: Gift Card Donation Request

When students earn Royal Way tickets and turn them in for the weekly drawing, if their name is drawn, they have the opportunity to pick a prize.  Would you be willing to donate a $5 gift card to Starbucks or Dunkin' Donuts for this drawing to motivate students to always be showing The Royal Way (Be Ready, Be Respectful & Be Responsible)? If so, please have your student bring the gift card to Angie Grotte in the Administration Office.  Thank you for your support!

Interested in Volunteering?

If you are interested in volunteering during the upcoming school year, please fill out the  2024-2025 RMS Volunteer Form. Thank you!

**Volunteer applicants will need to pay the processing fee of $10.25 as they progress through the Trusted Employees application process.  Background checks are valid for three calendar school years.

School Supply: Thank You!

THANK YOU Rogers Community, for the overwhelming response to our School Supply Request on Facebook! We appreciate your generosity!

The only item we are in need of are zippered binders.  If you wish to donate any new zippered binders, please drop them off at RMS anytime during school hours (or your student can bring them to the Administration Office).  Again, thank you so much for your incredible support of all of our RMS students!

Empowering Parents: Steps to Foster Healthy Technology Habits in Children

As parents, understanding the appropriate use of cell phones and social media is more crucial than ever. While social media offers some positives, there are indicators that it can also affect the mental health and well-being of young people. Please check out our Parenting for Digital Wellness page for more information on this subject.

Thumbs Up Update

Thumbs Up is excited to announce that we will be  continuing to offer our After School Program in both Elk River and Rogers this school year! Our Rogers After School Program is located at the Rogers Activity Center (RAC).

The youth after-school is a safe place for middle & high school students to hang out, build community with one another and have access to mental health resources. In addition to various structured activities, wellness activities, and mental health resources, we also provide snacks, games, books, and craft supplies. We also partner with another nonprofit organization called You're Not Alone to bring in certified therapy dogs each week. Thumbs Up is continuously working to enhance teen mental health educational opportunities through artistic, recreational, and collaborative activities offered through the after-school program.

Last year in Rogers, we averaged 25-40 kids every Wednesday, seeing over 420 student visits within 17 different program days! This year's After School Program will be open from 2:15pm - 5:00pm every Tuesday and Wednesday in Rogers. We are so excited to be offering another day each week!

All new teens will need to have a  Parent Waiver filled out in order to attend the program and all teens are encouraged to  Sign Up prior to attending.

Due to scheduling and our annual 5k/10k on September 21st, the first day we will be open in Rogers will be Oct 1st.

MN Department of Revenue: Tax Relief Programs for Families with Children in Grades K-12

Minnesota has two tax relief programs for families with children in kindergarten through grade 12: the K-12 Education Subtraction, and the K-12 Education Credit. Both programs help lower taxes and may provide a larger refund.
