6th Grade Field Trip: Exploring Minnesota’s History!
We are excited to announce that our 6th-grade students will be heading to St. Paul on Wednesday, February 11th to visit the Minnesota History Center and the James J. Hill House. This trip is a fantastic opportunity for students to see our MN Studies standards come to life!
We are looking for parent volunteers to help make this trip a success. Because we often have more interest than spots available, we will be using a lottery system to select chaperones.
How to Apply: If you are interested in joining us, please email your student’s first hour teacher by January 16th. We will draw names and contact the selected volunteers shortly after the deadline with follow-up details and instructions (all volunteers will need to have an approved background check on file with ISD 728 before being allowed to volunteer).
Thank you for supporting our young historians!
ACCESS Testing: Starts January 26
ACCESS testing for multilingual learners will take place January 26 - March 20. WIDA ACCESS measures EL student’s progress in listening, speaking, reading, and writing English language skills.
Skatetime PE Unit - Permission Slips & Payment due by February 27
Beginning on March 16 through March 27, 2026, our PE classes will be participating in an in-house skating program. The skates will be delivered directly to the school. Due to insurance purposes, we will be exclusively using Skatetime's skates. The fee for this unit will be $13 per student which can be paid online through Campus Parent Portal (beginning February 2) or by sending exact cash in an envelope labeled with "Skatetime," your student's first and last name and their PE teacher's name (checks are not accepted and we are not able to provide change).
Your student will be bringing home a permission slip which you need to sign off on and have your student return to their PE teacher. Please also have your student watch for a questionnaire to complete in their PE Course in Schoology regarding information on shoe size. If your student misplaces their permission slip, you can access a copy here: Skatetime Permission Slip.

What is Digging Diversity?
-Written by a Digging Diversity Student
Digging diversity is an in school activity where kids can enrich themselves in different cultures, learn new things, and meet new friends. This group teaches about many cultures as well as allowing kids to teach about theirs; this represents two of our school's core values “Everyone can learn” and “Change is an opportunity for growth.” At the start some people may be scared or defiant to learn a new culture and sometimes that can come just out of habit, but in Digging Diversity, we believe that if you can accept change you can grow to accept challenges.
As we learn more about different traditions and cultures we can start to feel a sense of connection and understanding, representing another one of our schools core values “Valuing and respecting differences strengthens the individual and the community.”
We meet once a month during school and do different activities to learn about different cultures and each other.
Attention 7th Graders: Are You Interested in Becoming a WEB Leader for the 2026-27 School Year?
-Written by a current RMS WEB Leader
Starting at a new school can be intimidating, but having the right support can make a huge difference. WEB is an amazing program to help new and incoming 5th grade students feel comfortable, welcomed, and supported as they start at RMS. This program helps students feel like they belong and focuses on support, connection, and guidance. WEB is currently available to current 7th grade students to join as WEB leaders. Application forms are sent out toward the end of the school year for 7th grade students who are interested in being a WEB leader in their 8th grade year. Students who are accepted into the program will go through a short, three day training course. These three days are filled with fun activities and bonding with other WEB leaders. After the short training course, there will be an orientation day with all incoming 5th grade students where you will take part in welcoming activities as a large assembly and in small assigned groups with an assigned WEB partner. Throughout the school year, you will continue to meet with your assigned WEB leader and small group four times to continue to help them adjust and gain more confidence. Overall, the program is an amazing experience and enriches leadership skills and makes a positive impact on the new students to make sure they have a positive and smooth transition to RMS.

Library Book Due Dates and Overdue Books
Here at RMS library books are only due once per month, always on the first Tuesday of each month when school is in session. Students are responsible for returning or renewing their books on time. They do receive several reminders via Schoology and the Morning Show leading up to monthly due dates, and students have many opportunities to renew and/or return books during the school day.
As middle schoolers, our communication about library books is primarily handled through the student. Weekly emails are sent to students if they have overdue library books so they should be checking their school emails regularly. When students have lost, damaged, or overdue library books, we expect them to communicate this information home to parents. Students may request we email home or they can call parents to inform them of any issues that need to be taken care of related to library books. Students may not check out any new library books until the overdue book is returned, renewed, or paid for if lost.
Books that are extremely overdue (one month or more overdue) will be considered lost and must be paid for. Students with lost or damaged book fees may not check out any new books until fees have been paid. Lost materials that are found within 30 days of payment will receive a full refund.
All lost book fees may be paid with cash in the RMS Media Center or via Campus Fees in Parent Portal.
Please contact annie.allen@isd728.org
