Beanstack Reading Challenges at RMS!

This year at RMS we are using a program called Beanstack to track and celebrate our reading. All students at RMS have access to it through their Rapid Identity portal. Teachers will be posting reading challenges for their English classes in Beanstack this year. The Media Center will also be using Beanstack reading challenges throughout the school year to inspire readers and provide reading recommendations. One of the challenges we had as a building was to meet a community reading goal. Our goal at RMS was to read 110,000 minutes by the end of the school year. We crushed that goal by the end of October! Our new goal is 220,000 minutes by the end of Quarter 2, which is January 17, 2025.

Book Fair Thank You!

Thank you to all of our students and families for supporting reading here at RMS! It was an amazing week filled with lots of Book Fair fun for our students. The Media Center was able to purchase MANY new books from the Book Fair for students to enjoy! Our Spring Book Fair will be held in March 2025.

Quarter 1 Coding PSA Contest Winners

Students in Mrs. LeMoine's Coding class took part in a Digital Citizenship Public Service Announcement video/poster contest in collaboration with the Media Specialist, Mrs. Allen. The Quarter 1 winners were: Lydia Gauck (Online Safety), Lillian Phengmany (Online Safety), Tyson Vande Vegte (Online Safety), Abshir Bashir (Online Safety), Audrey Dorsey (Social Media Safety), Isabella Caswell (Cyberbullying), and Adelyn Pfutzenreuter (Cyberbullying). Congratulations to this quarter's winners!

Library Book Due Dates and Overdue Books

Here at RMS library books are only due once per month, always on the first Tuesday of each month when school is in session. Students are responsible for returning or renewing their books on time. They do receive several reminders via Schoology and the Morning Show leading up to monthly due dates, and students have many opportunities to renew and/or return books during the school day.

As middle schoolers, our communication about library books is primarily handled through the student. Weekly emails are sent to students if they have overdue library books so they should be checking their school emails regularly. When students have lost, damaged, or overdue library books, we expect them to communicate this information home to parents. Students may request we email home or they can call parents to inform them of any issues that need to be taken care of related to library books. Students may not check out any new library books until the overdue book is returned, renewed, or paid for if lost.

Books that are extremely overdue (one month or more overdue) will be considered lost and must be paid for. Students with lost or damaged book fees may not check out any new books until fees have been paid. Lost materials that are found within 30 days of payment will receive a full refund.

All lost book fees may be paid with cash in the RMS Media Center or via Campus Fees in Parent Portal.
Please contact annie.allen@isd728.org if you have any questions.
